Fresh Stop by New Roots (a non-profit organization) has an organic food program at Redeemer which began June 9, 2011. Among other things, the first event featured a cooking demonstration from Chef Derrick Jackson of Jackson's Catering, inflatables from the YMCA, a visit from Louisville Mayor, Greg Fischer, and received media coverage in the Courier-Journal, and on WDRB. Photos of the event can be found in our Photo Album.

Fresh Stops provide fresh, local, healthy,chemical-free food at an affordable cost in urban neighborhoods where it is hard to find fresh produce. To help local farmers bring the food, participants are asked to pay the low-cost a week in advance of the market, for a share of good food worth 2-3 times its cost! One share feeds 2-4 people.

New Roots strives to work with community leaders to make each Fresh Stop a fun and educational experience. Come out a learn new recipes, meet the farmers, learn to grow your own food, and how you can find more farm-fresh healthy produce.

Dates, times, and cost:

Fresh Stop will operate at Redeemer every other Thursday from June through October, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. A standard-rate bi-weekly share costs $25. The full season (10 weeks) can be purchased for $250. A reduced-rate share is also available for $12, or $120 for the season. Reduced-rate shares contain the same amount of food, but are for people who meet requirements to receive SNAP/WIC benefits. We will never ask for verification. If you can not afford $12 every other week, please let us know. A limited number for scholarships may be available.

Payments must be received at least one week before the Fresh Stop event, and can be made at Redeemer, or to Portia White at the Shawnee Arts and Cultural Center at 607 South 37th Street.
